Scioto Tower, just west of downtown Columbus, Ohio.

One of my favorite places to photograph railroads is Scioto Tower just west of downtown Columbus, Ohio. There is plenty of action with about 70 trains a day pounding the diamond. Scioto Tower is sort-of unique in that it is owned by NS (formerly Conrail, hence the blue/white sign) but is staffed by a CSX operator who calls it Little Miami Cabin or LM Cabin when talking to CSX trains.

The attached photo is one of my favorites. It is from the top of the stairs to Scioto Tower watching a CSX coal drag head railroad west (geographic north) across the double trach east-west NS mainline (Former Big Four, Pennsylvania, Conrail) and the diagonally crossing NS West Virginia Secondary (former NYC). The train likely originated in West Virginia or Kentucky and is probably headed for Toledo, Ohio, or Detroit, Michigan. The lead is #483 and the trailing locomotive is 317.
