CPR Freight at Port Hope, Ontario 1967

This photo was taken in early April of 1967. The consist is headed by a CPR C424 #4224, RS18 #8763, FB2 and a new SD40. The consist is a westbound mixed freight about a mile west of Port Hope. There is a passing siding on the CPR at this point. the lead unit is just on top of the switch for that siding. The CNR parallels the CPR for quite a number of miles through this area of the country. It made for great train shooting back then as the CNR is only about 150 feet away from the CPR at this point. Races between the two competitiors were not unusual. Photo 1999, John Vincent
