British class 8F, 2-8-0 no. 48437 at Stockport

In the final months of normal service British steam traction, class 8F, 2-8-0 no. 48437 is seen at Stockport in April, 1968. This design, primarily intended for freight working, was introduced by Stanier in 1935, and over 660 were built. Boiler pressure 225 psi, 2 cylinders. With smaller driving wheels than the similar "Black five" they have a higher tractive effort of 32440 lb., at the expense of speed. Photo © 1999, Ian Smith

On a special enthusiasts’ tour in April, 1968, "Britannia" pacific no. 70013 "Oliver Cromwell" slips as she starts the heavy train out of Preston. See photograph d014_23a.jpg for a better view of the locomotive, but just look at the signal gantry in this view! Watching on the left is D245, a Type 4, 1Co-Co1 diesel-electric locomotive, a class built by English electric and introduced in 1958. It’s a 2000 bhp unit with a tractive effort of 52000 lb. These are pictures of the BMT trolley lines in and around the borough of Brooklyn, NY in the late 1950's to early 1960's. Note the classic car lines that made the PCC such an extraordinary piece of transit equipment.

GE boxcab built 1916, 80 tons, 2400v DC. The original fleet of 28 units was delivered between 1913 and 1917. All were still in service in the 1960's. Photographed at Anaconda, MT shops in June 1967.

GE boxcab built 1916, 80 tons, 2400v DC. The original fleet of 28 units was delivered between 1913 and 1917. All were still in service in the 1960's. This one was painted yellow and assigned to MoW service. Anaconda, MT, June 1967.
