Elbe Railfan Days, June 30th 2001, saw the debut of two newly restored steam locomotives: Curtis Lumber Co. Heisler #2 and Mason County Logging 2-6-2T #7.

Here Curtis Lumber Co. Heisler #2 and Hammond Lumber Company Alco 2-8-2T #17 are shown pulling a work train across the Nisqually River Trestle during a photo runby.

Elbe Railfan Days, June 30th 2001, saw the debut of two newly restored steam locomotives: Curtis Lumber Co. Heisler #2 and Mason County Logging 2-6-2T #7.

Sunday, July 1st, Martin Hansen operated a photo excursion with the two engines. Curtis Lumber Co. Heisler #2 is hauling a work train through Park Junction.

Elbe Railfan Days, June 30th 2001, saw the debut of two newly restored steam locomotives: Curtis Lumber Co. Heisler #2 and Mason County Logging 2-6-2T #7.

Mason County Logging #7 is a 2-6-2T built by Baldwin in 1910 as c/n 34666. She worked log trains out of Bordeaux, Washington until the l940's when she was sold to the Port of Olympia and renumbered #2. She worked the yards of Olympia, Washington until 1958 when she was sold to Charles Morrow who displayed her at the Snoqualmie Falls Railroad Museum until she was sold to Chris Baldo of Willits, California in the early 1990's. Her restoration took over 2 years but the finished product is one of the most unigue logging locomotives operating today.

Elbe Railfan Days, June 30th 2001, saw the debut of two newly restored steam locomotives: Curtis Lumber Co. Heisler #2 and Mason County Logging 2-6-2T #7.

Heisler #2 was also built in 1910. She was built as c/n 1198 for the Curtis Lumber Co. of Mill City, Oregon. She spent her entire operating career at Mill City for a succession of owners which included Hammond Lumber Co #2., Mill City Mfg #2, Vancouver Plywood & Veneer Co. #2 and Willis Shingle Co. 2. In the l960's she was purchased by Jack Rogers for display in his logging museum at Ashford, WA - just down the road from MRSRR. She operated briefly in the early 1980's on the short track of the Rogers Age of Steam Logging Musueum. Jack Anderson purchased the Rogers collection in the mid 1990's and resold her to herpresent owner Scott Wickert of Chehalis, WA in l999. Scott, who works at MRSRR spent over a year on #2's restoration which included a new crown sheet.

Elbe Railfan Days, June 30th 2001, saw the debut of two newly restored steam locomotives: Curtis Lumber Co. Heisler #2 and Mason County Logging 2-6-2T #7.

Mason County Logging 2-6-2T #7 is in the clear on the wye at Park Junction while Hammod Lumber Co 2-8-2T #17 holds the main with work train. Fireman Aaron Zorko gives #17 a roll by as she passes his train.

The three locomotives used on the excursion were posed side by side at Park Junction, WA. From left to right the locomotives are Hammond Lumber Company Alco 2-8-2T #17, Curtis Lumber Co. Heisler #2 and Mason County Logging 2-6-2T #7. Conductor Bob Freeman is shown talking with the engineer of #2.
