The McCloud Railway hosted the PLA on a spectacular winter excursion that was the debut run of McCloud River RR #18. This 1914 Baldwin had been built new for the McCRRR and hauled logs and freight there until being sold to the Yreka Western RR in l955. She served in freight service in Yreka until l964 when she was retired to the back of the YWRR shops.

The McCloud Railway bought her back in l998 and with the help of the UP hauled her down the UP to Mt Shasta, CA and back on her home rails. The trip on Sunday February 18 was a double-headed run with McCloud River RR #25 in deep fresh snow. The #18 ran beautifully after some adjustments were made in the days before. She will next pull a trip on Memorial Day to Burney.

Alberni Pacific's CPR RS-3 8427

This unit is the last surviving CP RS-3 and was purchased from CP by Crown Forest Ltd in 1979 for use on their logging railroad near Ladysmith B.C. Canada. However in 1984 the line was closed forever when one of it's main trestles was burned out.

The unit then sat in Ladysmith for some ten years until it was donated to the Alberni Pacific Tourist railway in Port Alberni B.C. The vintage loco is now used on summertime tourist trains along the city's waterfront with hopes of one day restoring the unit to it's former CP tuscan and grey livery.

The Swedish built 4-6-0 standing on the armstrong (turn it by muscle power) turntable at Unity, Maine. #1149 shown here was declared surplus by the Swedish military some 6 or 7 years ago. The Belfast and Mooseheadlake RR saw and realized a sharp looking, efficient, bullet nose engine and not only bought it, but bought at least 10 swedish railway cars to make a wonderful swedish looking tourist train.
