Everett, WA opened its new train station on February 4, 2002. The station is a intermodal facility designed to accomodate Amtrak, Sounder commuter trains, buses and shuttles, pedestrians and cyclists. The 4 story facility features architecture which combines the best of modern and traditional styles. The station features murals and other features that reflect the areas history. It also has space for college classrooms and worforce training programs, making it a community destination.

Here Larry Hanson, the retiring publisher of the Everett Herald, speaks to the crowd during the opening ceremonies. The station received a lot of coverage in the local media.

Here Washington state governer Gary Locke addresses the local media during the opening day celebrations. The station received lots of good publicity from the local media.

This is a shot the old station in Hammond, LA. It actually looks a little better than this photo taken on an overcast day by a novice with his new digital camera. Our train was making two stops at many of the stations because it was so long - four or five coaches, two sleepers, Lounge car, Diner, transition sleeper (used for the crew), two baggage cars and four or five express freight cars.

Like some of the others, these were shot from my window (sort of clean) of an Amtrak train.

We passed a rather impressive RR tower just after leaving New Orleans heading north. Of course I didn't have my camera out at that point! Minutes later we stopped next to an old tower so I got a shot of that. I assume it's IC.
