These links are the top 20* most active railroad photos this month, based on the number of views. Our "popular" page lists the photos with the most total hits. Obviously the longer an image is in our directory, the more hits it will accumulate, making it hard for new photos to be listed.

For the "Hot" list all photos start with 0 hits each month, so there is no unfair advantage for the older photos. The inaugural train, powered by Burlington Northern & Santa Fe and Union Pacific locomotives, on the south side of the Alameda Corridor.

The $2.4-billion Alameda Corridor project is a 20-mile railroad expressline that connects the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach to the transcontinental rail network east of downtown Los Angeles, CA. The corridor opened on April 12, 2002, on schedule and within budget.

Situated near the California and Oregon border, the Dunsmuir RailCam captures trains as they pass through on the I-5 corridor, the main rail artery linking the Pacific Northwest with California. This system is funded by the Dunsmuir Chamber of Commerce and operates around the clock.

The camera only activates when a train is within range. After a picture is snapped the images are uploaded to the main server within two minutes. The images will remain until another train passes and the images are updated. The system resets near midnight. While the images are still photos, you have the advantage of always being able to see a train on this site. You can also review previous photos taken earlier in the day. This is one of the best Railcams around.

This webcam shows traffic entering the USA from Abbotsford, BC. The highway vehicles are waiting in line to clear customs. A grade crossing is shown in the center of the image and you can catch a small glimpse of a yard in the background. The good news is the site offers excellent Streaming Video, the bad news is you have to be either patient or lucky to catch a train here.

In cooperation with the City of Rochelle, Illinois, we present the TRAINS Rochelle Webcam, where nearly a hundred trains may be seen in any 24-hour period. Our camera is mounted facing west at the Rochelle Railroad Park. Union Pacific's former C&NW Chicago - Omaha main line is seen in the foreground on the right, while Burlington Northern Santa Fe's former BN Chicago - Twin Cities line is at left. Both double-track lines cross at the center of the picture.

Streaming video with a very fast refresh rate, lots of traffic, two Class I railroads and 4 tracks, this is an excellent Railcam. A great place for some virtual train watching!

TRAINS ---- THE ULTIMATE HOBBY
This is a voyage into expanding a Railroad.
It's an on-going Mission:
To explore strange new alcoves
To Seek out new places and new areas to model.
To boldy go where no train has gone before!

My only Enterprise is in making space for a model railroad. The Beaver & Timber Springs was featured in Model Railroading March 1996. My railroad was as always, freelanced and fictionalized. Not having ever been to the USA, I have to rely on photo's and what I read in various magazines. I have always liked the idea of a mountainous area and to this end I have tried to bring the drama of a rocky (Western) mountain feel to my layout.

The fifth car in the train carries the "Wrapped Millennium Tree". The DC bound tree is an 80 year old white Spruce. from the Chequamegon National Forest near Rhinelander, WI. The tree has toured 30 some cities and towns in Wisconsin.

This is a full shot of the Badger Creek Lumber Company HO layout.

Badger Creek Lumber Company is an HO logging layout featuring Shay, Heisler and Climax loco's. What got me started in Model Railroading was the fact that I was brought up in model railroading by the wizard of all model railroaders, John Allen. His famous railroad "Gorre & Daphetid" was an inspiration to all who looked at the photographs of his layout. His photographic skills, and artistic talents were the envy of many a model railroader myself included.

I took it upon myself to study his photographs, his way of making the scenery, and his ability to photograph the finish product. Fortunately, he had been, as I was, a professional photographer, so the photography side came a little easier, than it would, had I not done any. As for the artistic talents of John Allen, By analysing photographs of his techniques, I came to the conclusion that it would take a lot of trial and error to achieve the same brilliant results. However, I was not daunted by this and worked on the scenery side for many years.

Finse, Norway is 1222 meters above sea level. Finse is the highest station on the Bergensbanen railroad. The picture is updated every 15 minutes during the day and every 2 hours during the night. Nice view of the station area, trains are clearly visible.

IT'S BACK! :). This cam is now working again after a few months offline.
Lacey (Olympia), WA Centennial Station is the Amtrak stop for Olympia and Lacey Washington. The station is located on the active Cascades corridor between Seattle, Washington and Portland, Oregon and is serviced by 8 Amtrak trains daily. The double track line is owned by Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) and can host up to 20 freight trains per day. In addition, Union Pacific (UP) has trackage rights on the line and runs an additional 10 to 20 freight trains per day. The totals from the 3 railroads can be as many as 40-50 trains per day.

With a very active double track mainline and Railcam shots for the last 4 trains to pass in each direction, this camera gives an excellent view of BNSF and UP in the Pacific Northwest. Now if they would only install streaming video...
