This is the builder of the S scale modular structures, etc., Dody Stevens. The modules as a whole won 3rd place at the Milwaukee NMRA National Convention in 1985. The judges happened to come by while Dody was standing there and because of the good ground cover were trying to "find" two modules. The saw mill itself took 1st place Master Craftsman at the NASG National Convention in Novi, MI, in 1986. NASG is the National Association of S Gaugers, of which Dody is the Membership Chairman.

This depot/station is entirely my own design, I drew up the plans and built this S scale scratch built depot for travellers to the logging community. The building itself is of scribed wood, the main roof section of individually laid shingles was a brown grocery sack, and the lower roof section is masking tape painted black. The bay window required several fittings before it finally decided it would remain with the building. The Suwanee Junction depot is free standing, not mounted on plywood like my other main structures.

This shot shows my log buggies which are also scratch built in S scale. Strict attention to underbody detail was observed. The bunk cars are of scribed wood, no plans were used. Unfortunately, the loggers don't have any steps to climb - they have to be good jumpers to get in or out. In the background to the left is a scratch built trestle, built to fit in the space available.

This close-up shot shows the interior of the sawmill, with a log about to be cut into planks. The saw dust isn't actually S scale, like the rest of the saw mill, since it is real sawdust. Clock parts were used for the saw.

This shot shows my log pond which is adjacent to the sawmill. The sign in the foreground is for The Whackencutt Lumber Company. A small section of the module was cut away for the pond, foundation of plaster, etc. applied & painted, then the 'pond' was poured using Envirotex. Pouring was in stages, the logs added at different times for 'floating' at different depths.

This saw mill is entirely scratchbuilt from wood strips, taking over 270 hours and approximately 1,760 individual pieces of wood. The idea came from a 30 year old magazine article in HO, the plans were converted to S scale and then downsized to fit the module on which my saw mill sits. It is mounted on a small piece of plywood which slides onto the module. The small structures to the right are the power source to operate the sawmill and water tower.

This area is called Woss. There is the A frame reload to move log from truck to train. This is one of the highest areas on the layout.
